St John's News

There is always plenty going on at St John's and this page is a great way to keep up to date with the latest news and notices from Clive and the Church Office.

If you use the microphones in Church, this is for you....

The Audio Team have asked us to circulate the following message.

Some of you will be aware that last year we purchased new microphones and associated equipment for use on the audio desk. Some users have tried to be helpful by winding the cable connecting the clip-on microphone to the transmitter unit around the transmitter unit. Although this may look like being tidy for storage, please DO NOT do this as it weakens the interconnecting cable and eventually results in intermittent audio, requiring  repair.

The microphones should be stored in the drawer with the cable completely ‘free floating’. It may look messy but it preserves the integrity of the unit.

Thank you

Audio Team

Bring and Share Lunch dates

Food for all the family!2020-02-11 Shared Lunches
The shared lunches are held once a month at St John's Church, usually on the first Sunday after the All Age Service, and are a great opportunity to meet people, spend time with friends and enjoy some wonderful food. If you’re an occasional visitor to St John’s or your first visit to our church coincides with a lunch, why not come along?

There are normally between 30 - 40 people attend the lunches. We started the lunches as we wanted to encourage people to have an opportunity to get to know each other over a whole lunch rather than a quick five minute chat after the service.

Everyone’s welcome to come along whether you bring some food or not. Regardless of how many people there are or how much food we have there always seems to be enough to go around.

If you’re able to join us for the next shared lunch at St John’s it would be great to see you there!

St John's Church Commitment Cards

To help with the Church’s budgeting for this year, please consider filling in a Commitment Card and returning it in confidence to Robert Brockbank. It will only be an indication of your expected giving to the church during the year – we understand that your circumstances may change. Cards, with a letter from our Vicar Clive and a return envelope, are available in the church porch. To save postage, feel free to put the completed cards in Robert’s pigeon hole in the church porch, or hand them to a duty warden, or to the Church Office. If you are able to give via the Gift Aid Scheme, then that is very beneficial to St John’s, as it allows the church to claim back an extra 25% on top of your donation, at no extra cost to you.  For further information please visit our Giving Page or click here.   Thank you.

Church office closed

Please note the office will be closed on Wednesday 12 February due to staff training .

The office will also be closed on Monday 17 February through to and including Friday 21 February.
The answerphone will be manned during office closure and any urgent messages will be dealt with as soon as possible.

Parking around the Church

It has been brought to our attention that a fire engine on blue lights was witnessed on Sunday morning 2 February having to crawl up St Johns street because some cars were not parked in the best position.  One car was parked jutting into the road at the junction with Vicarage Hill, making it extremely difficult for the fire engine to manoeuvre through the road.  We appreciate that it is difficult to find a space on a Sunday morning and this message is not just aimed at St John’s congregation; both the Methodist and the Catholic Church have been contacted too.  Please can we all park safely and respectfully—thank you.

St John's Taxi Fund

Do you have mobility problems and find it difficult getting to Church or Church events?
If you ring either M&R Taxis on 01394 380034 or Cars Smart on 01394 461461 to book a taxi, it is then very easy to claim the cost back via the Church Office.

Prayer for 'Who Let The Dads Out'

A message from John Horsley.

I’m getting in touch to ask the members of St John’s to support the Who Let The Dads Out? sessions, both generally and during the sessions
It's an important mission to the Dads and Father figures of the community  and so I'm asking whether you might be able to support this venture in prayer? You may be able to commit to praying regularly each week (either on your own or with others) or maybe agree to pray on a few occasions, maybe for half an hour, to cover this mission in prayer.

Please get back to me if you are willing and able to help whether in a big or a small way.
It would help if you could tell me what pattern of prayer would suit you.
The sessions are once a month mostly on the first Saturday.
